ELKINS — Davis Health System Foundation will offer a free outdoor community concert on Aug. 21 as a “thank you” to everyone in the community for working together throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

The popular Pittsburgh band Dr. Zoot will perform during the free concert at the Rotary Amphitheater in the Elkins Town Square, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Davis Health System Foundation Director Mike Bell explained the spirit behind the free concert while speaking at an Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce meeting Thursday.

“Throughout the pandemic, many of you, all of you, personally and through your businesses, supported the Davis Health System Foundation,” Bell said. “The health system’s charitable contributions were actually up 3% last year over the prior year. You made cloth masks, you fed people that were volunteering at the community vaccine clinics.

“We got through this together, so we were looking for a way to say thank you, a give-back event,” Bell continued. “So we’re going to take advantage that on Saturday, Aug. 21 there will be the farmer’s market, there will be the train … Come by all afternoon, there will be food trucks, a number of our community organizations will be offering children’s activities, activities for families.

“At 6:30 p.m. Dr. Zoot, a great, inter-generational big band out of Pittsburgh, will take the Rotary Amphitheater stage. It’s free and open to the community. So let’s come out and celebrate together and say thank you to one and other.”

Dr. Zoot is a diverse band known for swing, latin jazz and contemporary music, a DHS press release states. The band specializes in performing a variety of tunes from the 1940s through today. The band includes seven artists and has recorded eight full-length CD’s, and has appeared in both TV and film.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, as seating will not be provided.

“It’s going to be a lively evening of entertainment,” said Davis Health System Foundation Executive Director Mike Bell. “Live music lovers will enjoy the energy and range of selections this band delivers during performances. It’s a “don’t miss” engagement!”

Davis Health System Foundation is sponsoring the concert to thank the community for their support of front line healthcare workers throughout the pandemic.

Prior to the concert, the foundation has coordinated fun activities for kids and families at the Amphitheater. Beginning at 3:30 p.m. different community organizations will host booths offering educational and interactive programs.

A cash raffle for up to $1,000 will held during the evening.
