Holy guacamole, Batman! Saturday is Free Comic Book Day, a national annual event celebrated locally at The Hive Comics and Table Top Games in Odessa.
The Hive will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, no purchase necessary to pick up a free comic, or two, store owner James Laws said. Admission is free.
“We will have all the fun we can,” Laws said. “Along with the free comics, we will also have a store-wide sale.
“Special guests will include comic creator Joey Pineda, artist and writer Nicole Roberts and toy guru and podcaster Jade Russo.”
This year’s free comics include Star Wars: The High Republic, a special edition of Archie, a comic book adaptation about the life of civil rights icon Rosa Parks, Blade Runner, The Avengers, The Mighty-Nein, Lady Mechanika, Investi-Gators and many others.
Free Comic Book Day is an annual promotion effort by the North American comic book industry to attract new readers into independent comic book stores.
