Catalina Aranguren, founder of Walk-Bye by Argia Photography, returns with her highly anticipated public art exhibit, “we are everywhere,” on Friday, August 13, at 9 p.m. at the Priscilla Gardner Main Library.
Designed, curated, and organized by Catalina Aranguren and sponsored by the Jersey City Free Public Library, the exhibit is a Pride exhibit featuring eight local queer artists, each displaying a piece that together form the original Pride flag design created by Gilbert Baker.
Using color to establish meaning, Baker conceived a flag that would empower his “tribe” and a “rainbow of humanity” motif to represent the community’s diversity. He assigned symbolic meaning to each of the flag’s eight colored stripes: sexuality, life, healing, sun, nature, art, harmony and spirit. The artists featured are Beth Achenbach; Charl Kroeger; Isabelle Duverger; K BROWN; Katie Niewodowski; Melissa Ulto; Miguel Cardenas; and Tiffany DiGiacomo.
The “we are everywhere” unveiling will be a part of the Light-Up Pride Night Ride by Bike JC and includes performances by Ariel Guidry, Lillian Bustle, and Michael Browne starting at 9:00 p.m. The library hopes to offer the exhibit for as long as one month.
