SportsLine's advanced computer model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, is predicting the Panthers beat the Jets by a final score of 25-19. The model shows Carolina covering the 4.5-point spread in well over 50 percent of simulations.
Both teams struggled last season, with New York winning just two games and Carolina finishing the 2020 campaign with a 5-11 record. Carolina's Christian McCaffrey missed the majority of the year, but the versatile running back is expected to be the main focal point for the Panthers again in 2021. In his last full season, McCaffrey recorded 1,387 rushing yards, 1,005 receiving yards and 19 total touchdowns.
The model is expecting McCaffrey to have a big day against the Jets, projecting Carolina's star running back to rack up nearly 130 all-purpose yards. Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold is also expected to have a strong performance against his former team, as the simulations show him throwing for 240 yards and two touchdowns.
