Who’s doing what, and when, for Free Museum Day - St Pete Catalyst

The new kid on the block – that’s the entire block of 4th Street and 3rd Avenue North – isn’t participating, but many of St. Petersburg’s museums are allowing visitors in free of charge this Saturday, the national “holiday” known as Free Museum Day.

Declining to take part in “Arts Alive!,” the St. Pete-only version of Smithsonian Magazine’s cross-country event, are the Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement, which opened Sept. 7 at 355 4th Street N., and the Chihuly Collection (glass work by famed artist Dale Chihuly) on Central Avenue. Both venues will be open Saturday with regular admission prices.

Saturday admission is free for Pinellas County residents at the St. Petersburg Museum of History.

Free tickets (one per customer) are available from the Imagine Museum, a collection of world-class art glass from around the world.

The Museum of Fine Arts St. Petersburg has advance tickets on its website, available for reserved time slots Saturday to view the permanent collection only.

St. Petersburg’s most popular attraction, the Dali Museum, reports that all advance Free Museum Day tickets have been distributed.

The James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art also made Free Museum Day tickets available on its website, and similarly reports that there are no more available. “Walk-ins” may be possible Saturday, on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Florida Holocaust Museum has also “sold out” its advance Free Museum Day tickets.

Also offering free tickets through Smithsonian’s Free Museum Day website:

In Tarpon Springs: The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art.

In Tampa/Hillsborough County: Tampa Bay History Center, Tampa Museum of Art, Cracker Country, Henry B. Plant Museum, Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Ybor City Museum State Park

In Hernando County: The 1885 Train Depot Museum, Countryman Family One Room Schoolhouse Museum, May-Stringer House Museum.

Adblock test (Why?)
