Read some of what Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com wrote about Myles Garrett planning on playing against the Packers despite a groin injury that he suffered on Monday vs. the Raiders.
Browns defensive end Myles Garrett sat out Thursday’s practice with his groin injury and is listed as questionable, but has no intentions of missing his first career game against Aaron Rodgers on Christmas Day at Lambeau Field.
“I feel like I’ll play regardless of how I feel,” Garrett said. “I haven’t practiced, so we’ll see. But I’m going to go out there and give my all. We’ve got to win out to make the playoffs and I’m going to play in every second of the game that I can.”
Garrett was injured in Monday’s fourth quarter against Las Vegas. But he kept playing, leaping high to try to block the game-winning 48-yard field goal by Daniel Carlson. At times, he put a smile on his face when it was obvious he was in pain.
He underwent an MRI on Tuesday which determined the injury, and it kept him out of the lone full practice on Thursday before the Browns travel on Friday. The injury is significant enough that coach Kevin Stefanski made no promises he’ll play.
“He didn’t do anything at practice today,’’ he said. “I’d say he’s 50/50. He hasn’t done anything all week so we need to see how he progresses over the next few days here. Obviously, he’s very confident and he wants to play very badly, but we’ll see how it goes over the next couple of days.”
Of course, the Browns have to weigh Garrett risking reinjury vs. resting and being healthy for the two AFC North games coming at Pittsburgh, and at home against the Bengals.
The Browns, even if they lose in Green Bay, can still possibly win the division with victories in those last two games if the 8-6 Bengals and 8-6 Ravens win only one of their final three. The 7-6-1 Steelers, in third place, also have a chance to win the division.
“We’re just going to take in all of the information over the next couple of days,’’ Stefanski said. “I wouldn’t say necessarily that it’s going to be a [pre-game] workout-type thing and true up to the 90-minute [deadline for reporting injuries] but I just want to make sure that we continue to take in information over the next couple of days.”
With Jadeveon Clowney still on COVID-19 reserve and Takk McKinley out with a ruptured Achilles, Garrett feels the obligation to maintain the team’s pass rush.
“I don’t have a choice but to be great,’’ Garrett said. “I’ve gotta step it up. There’s no way around it. There’s no excuse that can be made. We have three games. We have one coming up very soon, and I’ve got put my very best foot forward and give us a chance to win.”
