MLB Free Agency: Cubs reached out to Carlos Correa - NBC Sports Chicago

The Chicago Cubs made a big splash signing Marcus Stroman, and they might not be done yet.

Free agent shortstop Carlos Correa, arguably the biggest prize of this class, has heard from a bevy of suitors, and that includes the Cubs.

The rest of the suitors include most of the big market teams - the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox - and the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves.

On top of the Houston Astros looking to retain his services.

The Cubs are looking to replace Javy Báez, whom they traded to the New York Mets at the trade deadline this season. Báez was one of several big name free agent shortstops on the market and elected to sign a six-year contract with the Detroit Tigers.

Right now it looks like the Cubs' middle infield will be manned by Nico Hoerner and Nick Madrigal, barring any notable free agent signings. Trevor Story is the other free agent shortstop still on the market.

Madrigal came to the Cubs from the White Sox in return for closer Craig Kimbrel in a late July trade.

With the lockout looming, there might not be time for Correa to get a deal done before everything screeches to a halt.
