The Baltimore Ravens announced on Saturday that they are keeping one of their own. Defensive tackle Calais Campbell has come to an agreement on a two-year deal that will keep him in Baltimore through the 2023 season. As for the financial aspects of the deal, the NFL Network reports that Campbell's deal is for $12.5 million. The 35-year-old does have $2 million in incentives available each year, which gives the contract a max value of $16.5 million.
If he plays 60% of the defensive snaps he'll earn $500K, and if he reaches 70% of the snaps he'll see another $500K. Campbell can get $500K if he totals five sacks and another half-million if he reaches eight sacks.
Campbell did briefly contemplate retirement, per ESPN, but he still has a desire to play, which paved the way for this return to the Ravens, where he'll likely look to finish out his career.
The six-time Pro Bowler has been with the Ravens the past two seasons after the club acquired him in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Over his tenure in Baltimore, Campbell has started in 26 of his 27 regular-season games and totaled 5.5 sacks, 77 tackles, and 22 quarterback hits. He's also had 29 pressures. In 15 games played last season, Campbell totaled 1.5 sacks and 12 quarterback hits.
Campbell originally entered the league as a second-round draft choice of the Arizona Cardinals in 2008. During his prime, the Miami product has been one of the better pass rushers in the NFL, being named to an All-Pro team three times throughout his career. He is also a member of the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team.
