Most of the 49ers’ free agency moves have involved re-signing their own players. While players like DJ Jones and Laken Tomlinson left for other clubs, Jeff Wilson Jr., Jordan Willis and a slew of others signed deals to return to San Francisco.

Of the 32 free agents who last played in San Francisco, 14 re-signed and 11 signed with new clubs. The third group is the sprinkling of seven 49ers free agents who remain without a team.

With more than three months left until training camps open, there’ll be plenty of times for those players to find teams. The 49ers might even be waiting for their markets to fall to a bargain price that allows them to re-sign for a minimal deal.

Let’s look at the 49ers free agents that still haven’t signed a contract:

Verrett looked to put his injury history behind him with a strong 2020 performance. He tore his ACL in Week 1 of the 2021 season though and missed the year.

Will he re-sign? Eh, maybe. Probably not.

CB Josh Norman

The 49ers added Norman the Monday before Week 1 after offseason injuries sapped their cornerback depth. He wound up playing in 15 games with 14 starts, but it’s clear his best football is well behind him.

Will he re-sign? The 49ers better hope not.

LB Marcell Harris

Harris moved to linebacker last season after beginning his career as a strong safety. He wasn’t great there in his first foray into the position, but he wasn’t an unmitigated disaster either in 336 defensive snaps.

Will he re-sign? Probably not. Free agent signee Oren Burks fills the role Harris occupied.

WR Mohamed Sanu

Sanu took on a larger role than the 49ers might’ve liked early in the year, but an injury plus the emergence of Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings in the receiving corps pushed the veteran down the depth chart.

Will he re-sign? Not unless San Francisco gets desperate at WR.

SS Jaquiski Tartt

It looked last offseason like the 49ers were willing to let Tartt walk, but his price dropped to a place where they were comfortable with bringing him back on a one-year deal. He started 14 games and posted 66 tackles, five tackles for loss and one pass breakup.

Will he re-sign? Not without an injury to someone on the 49ers’ safety depth chart.

S Tavon Wilson

Wilson only played eight games last year because of an injury. He contributed a lot on special teams, but didn’t see any action after getting hurt in Week 9.

Will he re-sign? Nah.

WR Travis Benjamin

Benjamin played in 10 games last season. He earned five targets and didn’t catch any of them. His special teams contributions in the return game were minimal as well.

Will he re-sign? Nope.
