Vikings reportedly on free-agent offensive lineman’s ‘short list’ - The Viking Age

Many fans have been vocal about wanting more help on the offensive line and a new report has a highly-regarded blocker interested in the team.

The Minnesota Vikings were busy in free agency this year. Several signings for depth and competition signings were made and new potential starters like Za’Darius Smith, Harrison Phillips, Jordan Hicks, and Chandon Sullivan highlight the new faces for the purple and gold.

An NFL team is never done trying to improve their roster. Although the Vikings did an excellent job filling holes in the roster through free agency and the draft, there are still some spots that could use some assistance.

One spot the team could still look to upgrade is center. Garrett Bradbury hasn’t lived up to being a first-round pick Minnesota used on him in the 2019 NFL Draft and bringing in a veteran to replace or at least push him would make a lot of sense.

Recently, Judd Zulgad of SKOR North shared that 31-year-old blocker JC Tretter has the Vikings on his ‘short list’ of teams he would have interest in playing for during the 2022 NFL season. In the article, Zulgad cites his co-host on Mackey & Judd, Phil Mackie for the scoop.

Should the Minnesota Vikings be interested in JC Tretter?

For the past few seasons, Garrett Bradbury has struggled to hold his own in the middle of the Vikings’ offensive line. He has struggled immensely against bigger and stronger defensive tackles, causing the offense to execute faster than they would like to.

It wasn’t just Bradbury. Minnesota also struggled to find a consistent and reliable starter at right guard. The Vikings drafted Ed Ingram to hopefully take over at right guard, but what happens if center proves to be a problem once again?

Depending on the cost to acquire him, Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah should be quite interested in adding the former Browns lineman to the roster. having a proven commodity at center would help to give the quarterback more time in the passing game and create holes in the run game.

Tretter may have some mileage on his knee, but if Minnesota is truly in a position where they believe this roster can make a deep playoff push, they should do whatever it takes to improve any weaknesses on the roster.

Do you think the Minnesota Vikings should sign JC Tretter? And is he the missing piece in a high-powered offense that hopes to light up the scoreboard? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
