Applying for Free or Reduced-Price Meals

Not all school meals are free this school year as they were during the pandemic.

Breakfast and lunch are free for all students attending the 94 APS schools that qualify for the Community Eligibility Provision. List of Schools that Provide No-Cost Meals. No application is necessary.

Students who don’t go to these schools may still qualify for free or reduced-price meals, but their families must fill out an application.

Free and Reduced-Meal Application

  • The application is available online in English and Spanish.
  • Only one application is needed per family, even when children attend different APS schools.
  • Applications need to be filled out every year.
  • While you can fill out the Free and Reduced Meal Application at any time, families are encouraged to complete it by Sept. 6. Schools have computers available for families to use.
  • A link to the application is also available through Titan, the website or mobile app that lets you find out what’s on today’s school menu.
  • Paper applications also are available at schools that don't qualify for the Community Eligibility Provision.
  • Call (505) 345-5661 ext. 38206 for more information or assistance.

Who Qualifies for Free and Reduced-Price Meals?

Students who don't attend a Community Eligibility Provision school may be eligible for free or reduced-price meals if:

  • Their families meet the income requirements
  • Their household receives benefits from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Their household receives benefits from Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
  • Their household receives benefits from Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (NM TANF)
  • They are in foster care
  • They participate in their school's Even Start program
  • They are homeless, runaways, or migrants

The state has provided APS with some funding to cover the entire cost for families that qualify for reduced-price meals for part of the school year. However, once that funding runs out, families may need to pay the reduced-price cost.

What If My Child Doesn't Qualify?

For students who don't qualify, online prepayments for meals can be made through the Titan website or mobile app.
