PASADENA, Calif.—The City of Pasadena Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department will host its 7th annual Centennial Square Boxing Show, featuring a full-scale boxing ring, in front of City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave., Friday, Aug. 26, from 7 - 11 p.m. This free, family-friendly event features 12 bouts of action-packed, Olympic-style boxing, with both male and female competitors ages 8 and older.
The evening kicks off with the national anthem and a color guard presentation from Pasadena's 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment. Attendees will also enjoy DJ music, classic cars on display, and food for purchase.
Sanctioned by USA Boxing, six of the 12 matches feature boxers who train at the Villa Parke Community Center boxing gym with Pasadena’s boxing specialist Fausto De La Torre. Over the last 20 years, hundreds of youth and adults have trained with De La Torre. Boxing promotes physical and mental discipline, strength and well-being, and is often a good fit for youth who are not drawn to more traditional sports.
