Three free agents the Patriots should consider signing right now - Musket Fire

The New England Patriots have their backs against the wall for 2022 so far. Here are three free agents the team should consider signing right now.

The fun part of free agency has been over for a while, and the players who are being signed to teams at this time are usually signed to round out the depth or cover for an injury.  The Patriots should take a peek at the current free agent market to see what is out there.

By most accounts, the Patriots are seen as the third team in the AFC East for 2022, behind the Buffalo Bills, who are likely to make a deep playoff run, and the Miami Dolphins, who added a ton of good players in this offseason.

Just because there aren’t any top notch players available to sign, doesn’t mean the team shouldn’t at least see what is out there.

While any free agent signed now isn’t going to significantly improve the team, they can still come in and give valuable reps for the club.

Three free agents the Patriots should consider signing: Bobby Massie, Right tackle

Something about the situation with Isaiah Wynn is rubbing me the wrong way.  He was essentially demoted to right tackle after not attending voluntary offseason workouts, and hasn’t had the best training camp.

Part of me thinks the Patriots would consider moving him during the season for the right price.  Wynn is a very talented player who could cement himself as a long-term starter for the team in 2022.

But as we know, the Patriots are a team to hand out massive contracts in general, and they might rather try and get some draft picks to restock at a position or two instead of simply extending Wynn.

Bobby Massie has been in the NFL for a long time and is as solid as they come.  He does come with a bit of injury concerns, but in this scenario, Massie would essentially slide in as the primary backup, and perhaps eventually get bumped up to a starter if Wynn were to get moved.

Adblock test (Why?)
